What kind of person could do such a heinous act?

At 7 yrs. old, my mind could not imagine such cruelty.  Since the exploration of new continents and colonialism, this harm took a higher proportion, threatening many wild animal's species, such as the elephants. This majestic beast is the king of the forest and is near extinction because of greed.

Basic Facts About Elephants:
Habitat loss is one of the key threats facing elephants. Many climate change projections indicate that key portions of elephants’ habitat will become significantly hotter and drier, resulting in poorer foraging conditions and threatening calf survival. Increasing conflict with human populations taking over more and more elephant habitat and poaching for ivory are additional threats that are placing the elephant’s future at risk.

• PLANT A TREE

Act to pay back negative karma, negligence, or lack of care for the Earth, whatever way you like to put it. I am talking about actions to restore the forests. As they are diminishing at such an alarming rate, that life on Earth is threatening. This should not only be the responsibility of politicians and governments, but also corporation and every citizen of this planet and especially educated people. There are website you may look for making a difference.

Some years ago, I was in a very bad car accidents and a lawyer was working on my case. The negotiation took  4 years to come to a close. The last day, at my lawyer's office, I saw the whole dossier: a thick pile of legal size paper of about 2 feet high. My file at home was only 4 inches. But all the letters the lawyer had sent to other parties involved in this case, would probably doubled the pile, as he is supposed to keep duplicates of everything.  This was a small claim. But when I saw this waste of paper, it made a strong impression on me. I plant a tree to make up for my personal story. But I also took the resolution to plan trees regularly.

If you do not own a land, there are website you may look for planting a tree. They will do it for you for a fee as small as $1.  It is suggested to plant a tree every month.

• THE LUNGS OF THE EARTH

Forests have been called by environmentalist “the lungs of the earth.” Because of the role the trees play in restoring clean air to the planet. At today’s fast pace, deforestation results in amputated the earth from her vital organs. With this knowledge, paper products should be treated as precious and valuable. However, this expertness is not yet in the public consciousness.
What can I do for the earth? There is the new ecologic idiom: the three “R”:  Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. Below are some practical suggestions for everyone’s daily life. You may have to get a little out of your way to remember to change old habits, but today’s  realty is calling for action.

• Use both side of paper to write on.
• Print double sided
• Reuse paper which have one side blank.
• Buy  recycled paper
• Reuse gift-wrap papers and bags
• Recycle all discarded paper and cardboard including the toilet
     paper cardboard roll.
• When you wash your hands reduce the amount of paper you pull
for drying your hand. You may also carry  with you a small guest
    hand towel to dry them.
• Switch back to old days handkerchief and fabric napkins
• But do use paper instead of plastic

Please add more practical suggestions you may think of, big or small.

• DOWNCYCLING

A small effort from everyone would make a difference in bringing the Earth back to balance. Most of us know recycling and reusing. Downcycling is a newer concept of converting waste products into a new one,  which is most often a different item. (Examples: plastic from recycled plastic bottles is used to make new pen or reusable shopping bags)  The purpose of dowcycling is to prevent wasting potentially useful supply, to reduce consumption of bran new materials and also in the process, to save not only energy, but also reduce air and water pollution.
You can choose when you shop:  Example: I like maple syrup very much. Stores offer this item in glass bottle, plastic bottle and tin container. You may choose the one with the cheaper dollar price. But you may also look at what will happen when the maple syrup has been consumed... Where the container will go? Glass is the only material, you can reshape in its original form without waste, except for some energy in the heating process. Tin may often be melted back into something else. Plastic may sometimes be downcycled, but this creates air pollution and waste products. With this information, what would be your priorities when shopping?
